Terms and Conditions

The terms on which Solent Skylights Southampton quotes for and carries out rooflight and skylight work, and the terms for using this website.

About these terms

Who we are and how these terms work

These terms apply between you and Solent Skylights Southampton ("we", "us") when you ask us to quote for, supply or fit a rooflight or skylight. They sit alongside the written quote we give you. Where the quote says something different about your particular job, the quote applies. You can contact us at info@solentskylightssouthampton.co.uk. We are a service-area business with no public premises.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Quotes

Surveys and quotations

Our survey is free and places you under no obligation. After the survey, or from your drawings, we give you a written quote. It describes the rooflight, the work included, the access allowed for, anything we need from your builder or other trades, and the expected lead time from the manufacturer. It is valid for the period stated on it.

A quote is based on what we could see and what you told us. If we find something during the work that could not reasonably have been seen, such as hidden rot in a kerb or rafter, we stop, explain it and agree any change with you in writing before carrying on.

Contract

Accepting a quote, and your right to cancel

A contract is formed when you accept our quote in writing and we confirm the acceptance. Where the contract is made at your home or away from business premises, or at a distance, you normally have the right to cancel within 14 days of the contract being made, without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. We will give you the cancellation information and a cancellation form with your confirmation.

Many rooflights are made to your measurements. If you ask us to place the order or start work within the cancellation period, you are asking for that to happen before the period ends, and if you then cancel you may have to pay for work done and costs incurred up to that point, including a made-to-measure unit already ordered for you. We will always confirm in writing before placing an order inside the cancellation period.

The work

Carrying out the work

We carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, to current Building Regulations and the manufacturer's instructions. Where the work is notifiable, we notify Building Control and pass the completion paperwork to you.

Delivery and fitting dates depend on the manufacturer's lead time and on the roof being ready. We give you the expected lead time in the quote and the confirmed delivery date when the manufacturer provides it. If either changes, we tell you promptly. Lead times are set by manufacturers and can change after an order is placed.

Where your builder, roofer or another trade is forming the opening, building the kerb or finishing the roof covering, that work is theirs and is covered by their own terms. We provide the sizes and details they need in writing and check the work before we fit.

You agree to give us safe access to the property and the roof on the agreed dates, to tell us about anything that could affect the work, such as asbestos or a listed building, and to obtain any planning permission or listed building consent the job needs. We check the planning position and tell you what we find; the decision is the council's.

Payment

Prices and payment

The price is the one in your accepted quote, plus any changes you agree in writing. Any deposit and the payment stages are stated on the quote; a deposit is usually requested before a made-to-measure unit is ordered. The balance is due on completion unless the quote says otherwise. Ownership of the rooflight passes to you when it has been paid for in full.

Cover

Cover and liability

Our workmanship is covered for 10 years from completion, on the terms set out on our guarantee page. Products carry the manufacturer's own warranty, and we help you claim under it.

We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

Problems

If something goes wrong

Please tell us as soon as possible. Our complaints procedure explains how we deal with concerns and what you can do if we cannot resolve them. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
