Who we are

Solent Skylights Southampton ("we", "us") supplies and fits rooflights and skylights for homes in Southampton and the surrounding area. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We are a service-area business with no public premises; you can contact us about anything in this policy by email at info@solentskylightssouthampton.co.uk.

We handle personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Sharing

Who we share it with

We share only what is needed, with:

  • The provider of our enquiry form and customer records system, which stores form submissions on our behalf under a contract that requires it to protect them.
  • Rooflight manufacturers and suppliers, for the delivery address and the details of your order.
  • Building Control bodies, for the notification of notifiable work.
  • Your builder, architect or other trades on your project, where you have asked us to work with them.
  • Our accountant, and HMRC where the law requires it.

WhatsApp is a service run by WhatsApp Ireland Limited, part of Meta. If you message us there, its own privacy terms apply to how the message is carried, and some data may be processed outside the UK under the safeguards WhatsApp has in place. If you prefer, email us instead.

Retention

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not go ahead: up to two years from the last contact, then deleted.
  • Customer job records: for the length of our 10-year workmanship guarantee, plus six years, so we can deal with claims and meet legal record-keeping duties.
  • Accounts and invoices: six years from the end of the financial year they relate to.

Your rights

What you can ask us to do

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted where we no longer need it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format where that applies. Email us to make a request. We will respond within one month, and there is normally no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Decisions

How decisions about your enquiry are made

Every decision about your enquiry, your survey and your quote is made by a person who has looked at your job. We do not use automated decision-making or profiling. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us on your behalf, as our services are for homeowners.

Security and changes

Keeping it safe, and updates to this policy

We keep personal information on secure, password-protected systems and limit access to the people who need it to do their job. Paper documents from site visits are stored securely and shredded when no longer needed.

We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
